Applications of Cartesian robots
Pick & place
Repeat transfers with defined position and orientation.
The process
A stable handle, from the point of origin to the destination.
In pick & place, the robot picks up a product at one point and places it at another. The difficulty lies in the arrival variations, the stability of the handle and the total round trip time — not just the distance between the points.
Architecture to evaluate
CR-NX-1P
A gantry is the reference architecture for transferring between positions. Axes, axis travel and eventual orientation of the gripper are evaluated for the trajectory.

How it works
The operation in 3 steps.
- Present the piece
The product arrives at the collection point with a defined position and orientation. When arrival varies, the project needs to predict how to locate or organize the part before starting picking.
- Transfer
The gripper holds the product as the robot moves between the points. Speed, acceleration and clearance height are adjusted to the payload, grip stability and obstacles along the path.
- Position
At the destination, the robot places the product in the agreed orientation and releases the gripper. Positioning accuracy is assessed together with the support fixture and the time needed to return for the next pick.
Before sizing
The data that makes a difference.
- How the product arrives: loose, oriented, grouped or in a device.
- Total moving mass, including the gripper.
- Tolerance required in destination and support condition.
- Gripping, transfer, release, return and waiting times.
Conditions to evaluate
- Loose or variable position parts may require additional power or identification.
- Surface, porosity and fragility guide the choice of gripper.
- The cycle includes gripping, transfer, release, return and waiting.
What to validate upon delivery
Repeatable transfer within the agreed cycle, without loss of product stability.
